Caring for Your Slate Plaque
Slate is a naturally durable, “low-maintenance” stone, but a little care ensures your tribute stays clear for years.
- Routine Cleaning: Simply wipe the surface with a soft, lint-free cloth and warm, soapy water. Avoid harsh chemicals or acidic cleaners, as these can damage the stone’s natural surface.
- Outdoor Maintenance: If placed outside, seasonal cleaning with a soft brush will remove moss or algae. Avoid using pressure washers, which can cause micro-cracks.
- Restoring the Finish: If the slate begins to look “grey” or dry over time, applying a tiny amount of baby oil or linseed oil with a dry cloth will restore that deep, dark lustre and help repel water.
